Köln City / Cologne
is with round about 1,1 Mio residents the biggest city in the federal state north rhine-westphalia and the
fourth biggest city in Germany. The history of the city is more than 2.000 years old. During the roman times
the city was founded in the year 50 anno Domini - the old name was Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippiensum, or short CCAA.
Due to the age of the cities there are many historical buildings and churches. The most famous church is the
cologne cathedral ( Koelner Dom ) - founded 1248.
Today Cologne is an important location for car- and Chemical Industry. Also a very important junction for traffic by cars, trains and ships. Furthermore a significant location for conventions and trade fairs. One of the most important events in town is the "Cologne carneval".
